Manager/Director of Human Resources

Plans and manages Human Resources activity by performing the following duties personally or through field and facility based Human Resources support staff. Lead and develop Human Resources support staff.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Interprets and communicates organizational policies.
  • Monitors HR Helpdesk solution to ensure timely response to employee questions, requests or concerns about benefits, payroll, policies, procedures or programs. Delegates and escalates as needed.
  • Responds to employee relations concerns and escalates to the appropriate members of senior management as needed.
  • Establishes and manages hiring and recruiting practices and procedures necessary to recruit and hire a high quality, stable workforce
  • Coordinates onboarding and plans and may conduct new employee orientation.
  • Communicates benefit plan offering, design and premium during open enrollment annually. Coordinates operating company open enrollment process.
  • Facilitates the development and maintenance of ADA compliant and accurate job descriptions.
  • Ensures that employee files and records are organized and maintained in a secure manner.
  • Submits appropriate paperwork for employment actions such as onboarding, promotions, transfers, status changes, position changes, pay changes, and terminations.
  • Coordinates supervisory level training in topics such as interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, ADA/FMLA and sexual harassment.
  • Advises management in appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
  • Approves transfers, corrective actions and involuntary employee terminations.
  • Coordinates and administers leaves of absence, including FMLA and personal leave. Educates employees and managers on the leave process and related policies.
  • Facilitates the interactive process for ADAAA accommodation.
  • Facilitates performance review process annually.
  • Reports workers compensation claims and provides case management for claims in partnership with workers compensation carrier.
  • Prepares separation documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
  • Provides reporting and metrics to senior leadership in response to requests for information.
  • Represents organization at employee-related hearings and investigations
  • Leads and manages projects and project teams from inception to execution
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience
Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree required. Master's degree preferred. A minimum of ten years related experience and/or training required. SPHR Certification strongly preferred.  Significant experience providing HR Generalist support to a large manufacturing or industrial workforce required.  To perform this job successfully an individual must have the ability to travel on a flexible schedule.  Multi-state travel is anticipated to be approximately 50%, with occasional increases in travel demands based on business needs. Majority of time is spent in an office environment.  Occasional time in a production or warehouse environment may be required to meet operating company needs.  Primary work location will be Richmond Virginia. 

 

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises and develops corporate Human Resources support staff. Indirectly supervises and develops facility based HR Representatives. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
